Ministries related to our Worship Services
Acolytes
Acolytes serve on Sundays, as well as for other special services. Our acolytes range in age from 10 – 90. If you are interested in this kind of service, please let one of the clergy know.
Altar Guild
The purpose of the Altar Guild is to assist the clergy of the parish in care and preparation of the altars for weekly services and in many other aspects of worship. The members are led by the Directress of the Guild, Suzie McCurdy, and in accordance with the instructions of the Rector.
Altar Flowers ~ A Lovely Way to Celebrate or Remember
By sponsoring flowers for the St. Peter’s altar or sponsoring the oil for the Sanctuary Candle, you may:
- honor a loved one
- give thanks for an anniversary or accomplishment
- commemorate a loved one’s birthday or death
If you’d like to celebrate in this way, please sign the colorful poster on the south bulletin board in the Parish Hall. The customary contribution for altar flowers is $30, payable to “St. Peter’ s Episcopal Church” with “Altar Flowers” in the memo line of your check. The occasion for the flowers will be printed in the service bulletin for that week. If you have any questions, please talk with Suzie McCurdy.
Chalice Bearers
Chalice bearers at St. Peter’s assist in our Sunday services and may even help take Communion to our shut-in members. If you are interested in this kind of service, please let one of the clergy know.
Greeters
Each Sunday, a team of Greeters is available before and after each service to extend a warm welcome to visitors and answer any questions they may have. This is a vital part of how St. Peter’s continues to be experienced as a very welcoming church. Greeter teams are usually scheduled for service every other month. For more information on serving St. Peter’s as a Greeter, please contact Jan Neubert.
Lectors
The office of reader, or lector, is among the oldest, if not the oldest of liturgical lay ministries. Serving as a Lector gives our parishioners the opportunity to participate in leading worship by reading the scriptural lessons, the psalms and prayers of the people. Scriptural readings are assigned well in advance, so the Lector has time to read the passage at home, and practice its presentation. If you are interested in this kind of service, please let one of the clergy know.
