On a sermon from Luke 14:25-33 Father Jeff Paul has a whole different spin on the strange and wonderful ways of honoring and hating family in a personal way relatable to all people of God and followers of Jesus.

Seeking to be connected and surrounded by people who have dedicated their lives to service like those in St Peter’s congregation and the faithful throughout Carson City feeds our souls and gives us life.

Especially On A Sunday

signal-2016-08-21-123009Hallie Murphy brings us a Sabbath homily about release from bondage and restoration to life based on the Sunday long ago told about in Luke 13:10-17 the healing of the bent over woman.

Our spiritual bentness of baggage weighs on our spirit…and Jesus stands us up.

The laying aside of Satan’s burdens and making way for Jesus’s healing and salvation is happening at St. Peter’s every day, but especially on a Sunday! Listen how now or download for later:

It Will Do Your Heart Good

HeartsSunday, August 7, 2016 Pam Ertel, who leads our Godly Play and other children programs, shined in the darkness of a power failure as she spoke of taking action to do our heart good based on Luke 12:32-40.

Our photo is hearts made by the children of the congregation. These were passed out before the sermon for the congregation to write how they will be love in action this week.

This Fragile Earth

IslandHomeChaliceDue to technical challenges, we join our July 31,2016 sermon a few minutes after Father Jeff has quoted Eucharist Prayer C:

At your command all things came to be: the vast expanse of
interstellar space, galaxies, suns, the planets in their courses,
and this fragile earth, our island home.

Our photo is of the Fragile Earth Chalice by Loudon Silver Work given to the church by the congregation and used in communion on July 31st. The chalice and paten were inspired by Eucharist Prayer C, quoted above.

Listen now or download for later as Father Jeff reveals the larger than the planet joke Jesus tells in Luke 12:13-21 There is more to the story of purpose and peace than the Romans were telling then…and some still tell today.

The Lord’s Prayer

LordsPrayerStPetersStarting Abraham negotiating? with God over destruction of Sodom in Genesis 18:20-33, for reasons not widely known, Father Jeff Paul pivots and opens up the Lord’s Prayer that you probably never heard, the version found in Luke 11:1-13

Neighborliness, Hospitality and Worship

churchsignJesus has Good News for those who dare reach out beyond expectation and convention and look like a fool like Mary did in Luke 10:38-42.  (And as Abraham and Sarah did in Genesis 18)

For we are not just expected to commune with Jesus and receive the hospitality of God, but we are expected to risk sharing that hospitality with our neighbors.

The Rev. Kim examines the way of peace out of the chaos of our lives and our potential for joy using Galatians 5:1-25, the Parable of Two Wolves, and the wisdom contained in a refrigerator magnet. The audio of the scripture reading at the beginning is soft, but that is just to develop your patience. The audio of the sermon that follows is better.

What Is Your Name?

MyNameIsOn June 19, 2016, Father Jeff Paul reflects on our identity when we encounter Christ as he explores how the world was in Jesus’s time and who we are when we meet Christ in our time. Today’s scripture is from Luke 8:26-39.

Father Jeff told the good folk in the early service that Jesus went out to meet the demon possessed man out of compassion, another suggestions was offered…listen to that possibility and the rest of the sermon below.

An Open Hand

Following-Jesus-willOn June 12, 2016, drawing on the parables in Luke 7:36 – 8:3 and 2 Samuel 11:26 – 12:15 Father Jeff guided us on how we can “maintain the posture of the open hand toward a world that scares us”. (Following Jesus in a Culture of Fear by Scott Bader-Saye)

Each one of us have experienced the reality that a Godly, righteous and sober life and can live right next to a life that self-will run riot. For us in community, when we catch ourselves (or are caught) we have an opportunity to repent and be forgiven, a way out—a relationship with God.
